As part of Clara Wainwright’s Faith Quilts Project, a group of Hindu mothers from all across India who had children attending the same school in the United States created this piece to symbolize the values they hoped to impart while raising their children in a new land. The center image is a sun with rays made up of the various types of divali lamps used by the families and surrounded by Hindu temples. The bottom panel illustrates the many ways youth pays respect to elders: listening to teachers, washing grandparents’ feet, and sending memorial lamps down the river.
